Classical Pilates: Not Rigid, Just Simple
I had heard of Classical Pilates, of course. But from the outside, it seemed stuffy. Rigid. Unwelcoming. A world with its back turned to anyone who hadn't been trained in a particular lineage. So I stayed away until I brought my frustration to my mentor, Lauren Brandt. I feel lost, I told her.
7. Who Are You Doing This For?
We are living in a world of crazy. Fast pace. Political upheaval. Constant noise. And in the middle of all of it, we tell ourselves a story. I'm doing this for my family. I'm doing this so they can have a good life.
6. Come Home
came home from my first trip to Asia — Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam — and the first thing I did was walk to my kitchen sink, turn on the tap, and drink straight from it. Cold. Clean. Free. Not from a plastic bottle I had to buy every single day just to stay hydrated.

3. Pilates Met Me There

When I opened Seed Studio, I opened it with a business partner who was the Pilates person. She was more experienced, more deeply passionate about the method, and she was the one leading the teaching.
2. Pilates Didn't Promise You Lean
Scroll through social media for five minutes and you will find it. Five Pilates moves for a flat stomach. Pilates for weight loss. Get the Pilates body. You will find studios offering Hot Pilates, Reformer Pilates, Pilates rowing hybrids, all of them wearing the Pilates name like a label on a product.
1. Classical Pilates: Not Rigid, Just Simple
I had been a Registered Massage Therapist for over 15 years and a certified Pilates teacher trained in a contemporary program. I thought I understood the method. I knew the exercises. I knew the choreography.
